A wonderful fifteen-hectare garden. A fascinating journey among the colours, shades, and scents of plants and flowers from all over Italy and all over the world. Euroflora is not simply a botanic show, it is an immense stage where the creativity and imagination of the best nursery gardeners blend with the charm of uniquely scenic settings. You will discover a world full of surprises, rare specimens, and new flower varieties. You will find out about new trends and design innovations, which will allow you to imagine how greenery in our cities and our gardens could look like in the future.
The show will last eleven days, to enable the large public to dive into the wonders of nature. To fulfil their curiosity and their passion for greenery in all its forms. To reflect upon the relationship between man and nature and the future of our planet's resources. The leading theme at the Show will be water, as the primordial source of life and as an exhaustible resource on which increased awareness is required. Flowing water, with waterfalls, water effects and fountains, but also water as a route along which the various vegetable species have spread.
The sea will be one of Euroflora 2006's new features. The reconstruction of an "Old America" port -built under the fairgrounds marina tensile structure- will be the ideal setting to go through the history of spices, herbs, and fruit which have reached Europe over the centuries from the farthest places on earth. Tea, coffee, and cocoa plants, date palms and banana trees will become part of a selection already including thousands of species, completing a real botanic anthology ranging from Alpine flora to lush tropical vegetation, from "monumental" plants to collection specimens.
Water jets taking the most fascinating shapes will form abstract and constantly moving settings in the Palasport -the large round pavilion near the main entrance -, providing an ever-changing background for extraordinary lemon specimens, and will then flow into one single twenty-five-metre-high waterfall. A large water wall will also be the background for a breathtaking azalea arrangement in the centre of the pavilion. In pavilion C visitors will have the chance to walk under an imposing waterfall, which will be the key element of the overall setting.
Euroflora is a world-class competition involving floriculturists and nursery gardeners, the undisputed protagonists of the Show.
Their full commitment and professional skills will be expressed in technical and aesthetic contests, whose total number, including updated and modified ones, will be 756, with some important novelties in the sector of hybridisations and maintenance.
Special prizes will be devoted to the people who have made the history of the Show, while a specific section will be reserved to the "Gardens to dream", where innovative Italian and foreign landscape designers will be able to express their creativity and imagination, attracting experts and enthusiasts.
The total prize money is almost 420 thousand Euros. The prizes will be assigned by international experts in accordance with top-quality standards.
Euroflora 06 will be held under the Aegis of the Italian President of the Republic, of the Italian Ministry for Forestry and Agricultural Policies, the Italian Ministry for the Environment, and the Italian Ministry for Transports and Infrastructures.
There will be four related exhibitions: Flortec, displaying professional and DIY equipment and products for nursery gardening, Florcasa, with garden furniture and accessories, the shopping area and the Mercato Verde (the Green Market), offering the opportunity to buy directly from the producers.
The city. From 21 April through 1 May 2006, initiatives will "blossom" in Genoa and all over the Liguria region.
