Tomorrow the visit of the Chinese delegation from Tianjin
Genoa 46th International Boat Show is continuing at Fiera di Genova, and will close on Sunday, 15th October.
The day opened with the visit of European Commissioner for Maritime Affairs
Joe Borg who met the operators and visited the stands of the leading European manufacturers before the Show opened. He was accompanied by the Italian Minister for Agricultural Policies and Forestry
Paolo De Castro. The core theme was the increasingly pressing issue of
sustainable fishing, for which the European Fund for Fishing has allocated 3 billion 800 million Euros, 376.6 of which specifically for Italy. The Mediterranean dossier is also being finalised, aiming at offering more certainties for Italian marine centres, which are currently managed applying the same rules in spite of very different situations throughout the country. "The rules – underlined Minister De Castro – will in any case need to be extended to all Mediterranean countries, including non-EU countries".
Mr De Castro is the fourth Minister visiting this year's Show (after Mr D'Alema, Bianchi, and Pecoraro Scanio), and this bears witness to the attention paid to the boating sector by Italian institutions. This was also confirmed by trade union CGIL's general secretary, Guglielmo Epifani, who visited the Show for the first time and said it was very interesting for him to observe closely an Italian industrial sector which is achieving great results from both an economic viewpoint and in terms of prestige.

The tall ships will be back in Genoa from 28 through 31 July 2007, seven years after the Regatta of the Third Millennium: the vessels will reach Genoa Old Port at the end of the great Mediterranean regatta which will sail off Alicante on 4 July and will stop in Barcelona and Toulon before reaching Genoa.
The fleet will be complete, with l'Amerigo Vespucci, and ships Palinuro, Stella Polare, CorsaroII, Capricia, Caroly, Sagittario and Artica II, beside the numerous private ship owners that will reach Genoa with their boats, including many period ones, thanks to the cooperation between Yacht Club Italiano and A.I.V.E.
The Tall Ships' Race, which also includes a series of events on land in each of the four cities it stops over in, is to involve young people into the sea adventure: indeed, according to the race's international regulations, at least half of each crew must consist of youngsters between 16 and 25 years of age.
STA Italia is a fully voluntary, non-profit association established in July 1996 by the Italian Navy and Yacht Club Italiano to be the Italian body representing the international organisation promoting the activities of large vessels as a tool for training and international friendship among young people who love sailing and the sea.
